I Have WAM 2.3 and i was in the middle of creating a listing and it gave the message New Update avail. and asked if i want to install; so i clicked yes and it finished and restarted then a pop up message reads Root Element is missing!
Try to open the listing an old listing or a new listing and most of the page is missing!
Man i wish these Updates were tested and approved before they are implemented;
does anyone know what to do to fix this problem
Chief; are you there?
Frustrated.....
thanks

This actually has been tested on a few machines, and all went well here. Off the top of my head, this sounds like your Setting file failed to overwrite. This may be a setting on your computer preventing this overwrite.

Please download the below zip file to your desktop, then extract the contents. Navigate to the auction manager install directory, which is usually C:\program files\webidz auction manager\ . Now paste the Setting file provided in this download to the webidz auction manager folder. If it asks you if you wish to overwrite the existing file, choose yes. Restart the auction manager, and all should be working now.

ok Mr J
i just tried that ands it reads: NOT FOUND The requested URL /auction_manager/setting.zip was not found on this server.
Is there a way to just undo the update for now?
thanks Cliff

Sorry about that, I had the url wrong. I have changed it, and it will now work.

If the auto update is failing to overwrite existing files, reverting back would not work either, as this would also require overwriting existing files.

What OS are you running?

PS it always asks for my permission when opening WAM
is there a way to just accept it every time W/O Permission?

Also i just did a search for ZIP and it shows setting and AM 2.3, so open one of these?

When you are prompted to download, I recommend saving to your desktop. Otherwise I am not sure where it is saving it to. Unless you know for sure the setting file is what you downloaded just now, do not use.

If you are referring to the other files you downloaded when I assisted you previously, yes it is safe to delete those.

I am not sure if thre is a setting to not prompt you every time you use... I would need to look into that further.

I don't recommend doing a search, as you may end up with the wrong file. Just download to your desktop, so you know you have the right file. The file would be named Setting, and this will be the only one that you will be replaced into your auction manager folder.

I am actually in and out of phone conferences for the last few days, so I cannot commit any phone time right now.

I am not sure what the WAM one would be, as you would not have downloaded that today. Just the Setting.zip file is what you should be working with right now.

I have windows vista and I just tried to get it to open without permission
and there is no way to do this except to go into the control panel and
open users accounts and go to turn user account control on and off
and turn it off then you should be able to do it then . But it’s not worth
turning it off since this is another security measure that helps protect
your computer.
Admin could contact Microsoft and send them the program so they can
get it approved and certified by Microsoft to work with windows then
this permission window will not be necessary.

unzip it first! Then a message will come up asking if you want to open the files you just unzip, click ok a new window comes up with the files click on the setup file was on right side on mine and it will load! Meanwhile you can delete that window that you unzip

No, we do not recommend turning UAC off. Right now it should just give you a prompt, asking if you want to run the program. By choosing to allow, it should open right up. Ace, do you know where we could contact microsoft from, for the purpose of getting the software approved?

This would happen if you tried to execute an install file, and you already have the auction manager installed. What file did you open? It sounds like you downloaded the auction manager again, and you are executing one of those files. The only zip file you should be working with is Setting.zip. Once downloaded, you would want to right click the zip file, then choose extract or unzip.

Regarding setting up an appointment time to call... I do not even know my own schedule lately. Some are scheduled appointments and some are follow ups that have no prior notice, plus I have been having to go out of town a couple times a week. This week and next week is looking the same for me, so I would not be able to schedule anything for at least this time frame.

Yes I Keep trying to unzip/extract and it says it will show files once extracted; then if i click on it i get the java;
then WAM is still doing the same thing.
2 weeks from now i'll be in Ocean City MD. for the week
I'll just keep creating listings in Turbolister untill we get this fixed
thanks Again and maybe when you get an opening we can go thru the proceedure together

After the file is extracted, you do not need to open. Just right click the "Setting" file that you extracted, then click "copy" from the drop down menu. Now navigate to the auction manager install directory, which should be C:\program files\webidz auction manager\. Once you are in the install folder, right click anywhere inside the folder and choose "paste" from the drop down menu. It may tell you that the file already exists, and ask if you want to overwrite... select to overwrite, and you are done.

Now open the auction manager and everything should be working.

Yes i contacted microsoft and they informed me to go to this site

To certify your program you can visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Opening WAM Message: "Load Auction Columns: Root Element is missing" Still Pops Up when i open WAM and All the listings are corrupted.
Also just trying to update or any of the other tools gives a message "Server could not log you on, Please check username and password"
(WAM Needs a place to Log On if this is the case) I AM logged on at the site
Has Anyone else had this problem?
Seems i am stuck not being able to list for a while untill this gets straightened out.
as i only list thru WAM;
I wish it did not have all the quirks and was more like Turbo Lister. It ran good for a month or so and now i cant do anything. And with the problems i wish there was a way for it to offer to repair the corrupted files automatically or find them during an update or a scan system which finds and repairs the files....
Wish i knew more about software development where i could fix this problem and/or offer to make it better.
Seems it has a good start but still needs some tweeking or fine tuning...
Guess i will have to list a few more items on craigslist and ebay and amazon
Oh Well Admin,
Let Me know when you have like a 1/2 an hour and we can work on this via the tele.
I Fear it's the only way i will get my WAM back.
dont hate me because i am a pain in the glutes

Sniper,

Most members are now running the 64 bit compatable version, as this was released to them a couple versions ago. So the update you received is the same as everyone else is getting.

dc,

All the issues that you report would be present if the Setting file was blank. That is why I wanted you to replace your Setting file with the one I provided you. I am not sure if it is a security setting on your PC, but something is blocking the software from overwriting this xml file.

Sports,

No you do not have to take the update, but you will be prompted every time you open the program. When you do decide to do the update, you can backup all your auctions and data from the file menu... just in case you have any issues.
