Recently in my area this has been a big topic because of 2 things that happened. First, a few months back some guy had some drinks then ended up hitting a couple on a motorcycle leaving them for dead (and they did die). Rather then helping them, he took off. He was so desperate to get away he drove lon his flat tire/rim. And the 2nd case (which is more horrific), a man beat and killed his girl friend's 3 year old little boy. Last I heard they wanted to seek the death penalty for both of them. But now we have people saying they should get life in prison. If it was up to you, which would you do? Life in prison or put them to death?
My opinioj, Im for the death penalty so its obvious ;)

Well I came up with a few ideas, but I was told I was barbariac (or however its spelled). I was called a sicko when I said repeat the 18 wheeler scene from the Hitch-hiker :D . Or toss them in a cage with a few lions. Danial might have survived but I doubt they will LOL

Go for the Death Penalty here - I work at a Prison (My state does have the death penalty) and more than enough to know that a life sentence doesn't really work. What happens is way too often they get their Associates or Bachelor degrees without a chance to ever get out and guess who helps to pay for it. Give the education to the kids or ones out here who can't afford it. The other hand is the rest are trying to kill each other while they are in there anyway, there seems to be almost weekly stabbings. I would vote for an arena where they can just go at each other til death and the one that remains gets life.

ya know why alot of states give life? Because of the appeals. They get appeal after appeal, and the tax payers pay for it either way :( This country should go back to the days of old. When you were found 100% guilty of murder, you went from the court room to the noose. No appeals because if youre convicted of murder, you should have no rights.
Btw our state (PA) has the death penalty as well, but the last time we killed someone was in the 1970's.... we need to use it more ofton ;)

I choose Death Penalty. They are in prison for what they did, do they deserve to live when they killed someone else? Nope, an eye for an eye. I say they should suffer the same type of horrible death that they themselves made others suffer from. We hear about prison overcrowding all the time, bump could probly write novels on it. So start thinnin out the prisons, the tax payers are supporting those that get life anyway.
I think all the ideas above are plenty suitable for someone who chooses to take anothers life, and could probly think of some really good ones of my own.
I gotta tall tree and rope, anyone wanna use my field for hangins?

Hey, I'm a firm believer in back woods justice..........got a family that's ready to go at any moment needed LOL
If we don't have woods,,,how come I can't see the road from my house???? Those tumble weeds must be getting bigger everyday in Okieland LOL
Now that you mention those tumble weeds, little story to tell.......when my friend had that mare of mine up near the panhandle, I drove up there one weekend, and was cruisin along at about 70mph when this tumbleweed rolled across the road. I swear it was as big as my car, and had it hit me, the insurance would have for sure totaled my car from the damage. That thing was huge, we don't have those down here around Okc area and south, that I know of anyhow.

Sports and all..I AM backwoods to the extent that I say a LONG hard vigilantly death justice might
be in order for the murderer of that baby!!
The couple on the bike is horrible ..either death or life/ no chance of parole and HARD LABOR..
You know we STILL have hard labor crews here in Ga,:D

Life in prison for that man who hit the couple on the motorcycle is not justice. Even with hard labor.
That man made choices that night that affected more than just himself.
He chose to drive after he had been drinking, and then hit a couple on motorcycle.
He then chose to leave them there for dead, actually driving on a flat tire/rim to get away. He knew he hit them, and chose to leave instead of helping.
Now the choice for the public/law to make is life or death. If they chose life, the victims family will now be helping support the man that killed the couple. And that family does not get the choice of supporting him or not. They are tax payers, and part of where their tax dollar goes, is to support the prisons, therefore supporting him with 3 meals a day, a roof over his head, probly tv priviledges, socializing with other inmates, an education if he wants it, and so called rehabilitation. He will also get weekly visitation with his family/friends.
The couple that died, HE made the choices for them that night. He chose that they no longer get to see their children, parents, grandchildren, family or friends. They no longer get to watch tv, curled up on the couch on a saturday night. They no longer get to enjoy a night out for dinner, or holidays or family reunions. They do not get to see their grandchildren have children. They no longer get to laugh or smile or love.
To me......the choice is clear, the man should get the death penalty for what he did. Why should the victims family be part of supporting him.
Sorry this got long, but I come from a family who was involved in biking, and have seen way too much happen and no one stop to help. A van pulled out in front of my dad one night after a long weekend bike rally, it was raining and we were on our way home. Dad was on his bike, and us kids were in the car behind him with mom. He had to lay his bike down and it was all mom could do NOT to run over him before she could get the car stopped. The man driving the van never even looked back. Luck was with my dad that night, and all he had was minor cuts and bruises, but it could have been far worse.
It is way past time that people start facing the consequences for the choices that they make.
Forgot to add.........The man that killed the baby.......NO BRAINER.....He should die for what he did.

I seem to be in agreement with most the people here, death penalty for both. But when it comes to the verdict, I would take it a step further. My death penalty would not include a trial review or endless years of appeals. I think once the verdict is handed down the prisoner should be taken to a "waiting room" where he will be immediately gassed or a bullet put in his head. At that point all the trial records and evidence should be destroyed and that would be the end of it.
If a person kills without concern for the victim then that person's life should be forfeit.
I also feel that since state governments either have the death penalty or stop it, depending on who is in power at the time, prisoners given the death penalty and are awaiting the sentence, should have those sentences carried out no matter what the current policy is.

I am 100% for the death penalty especially when it comes to people hurting kids! Send the monsters to prison while they await their date with hell but put them in general population. From what I've heard even the scum that are in prison don't take kindly to those who abuse or kill children. They'll get their deserved punishment before they die!

I'll go one even farther, George Carlin had a great idea a couple of years ago, You take a God-forsaken chunk of land like out there in the sage brush desert in Wyoming, build some large inter-connected pens, (one for murders, one for pedifiles, one for pimps, drug dealers, drunk drivers, white collar criminals(who rip off the little guy) ect, ect. And then every once and awhile you open the connecting doors; just to mix things up a little ;). And if they complain about food, throw them a pack of seeds and tell them to get busy!
Don't have to feed, educate, entertain, or pay to put them to death
And I bet crime would go down

Now there is a good idea. Build a big prison in the middle of the desert, provide the prisoners with some livestock and seeds and tell them "you farm, you eat, You don't, you starve." Each day provide them with enough water to take care of the fields, animals and just enough left over for themselves. I doubt water hording would be tolerated since it would mean the food sources would fail. Anyone trying to escape would probably die in the desert.
