We tried to download this again as we are trying to add and update auctions and the old way of doing 1 at a time is realy getting to be a time consuming project! We extract the files to the desk top, deleted the extract file, started the wam, entered our name and password, checked for updates, then tried to download the data and a error pops up saying (can't find log in name) Below is a copy of the error we got in our c file
2/9/08 2:27:47 PM CommonMethods Could not load file or assembly 'http://yourhighbid.com/autoupdate/WeBidz_Auction_Manager.exe' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

A common error made by just about all of us is not downloading the master file. I noticed that you did not state that you did downloaded it. I don't know much myself, about WAM, but it is a place to start. Hopefully Admin will be along soon to help you get up and WAMing..

Good luck,

Yes we downloaded it from the link 1st then followed all the instructions they had down to a T!
We have tried many times now over the last 2 months and still the same thing! We just figured we try it again as like we said it is very time consuming and hard to keep 1000+ auctions going at 1 at a time!

Thanks

mj,

I will have to look into this further. Just from the details you posted, it appears that we possibly uploaded the wrong file for this download link... or possibly that version was formatted incorrectly. Regardless, this looks like it is most definitely an issue on our end. We have a new version almost ready for release. We will try to finish up by tomorrow and get this updated. We will keep you posted on the results.

1.4.8.3 Is The Version On The Link

admin
02-10-2008, 12:54 PM
We have updated the download version, and it is now available at the below url.

http://www.webidz.com/downloads/auction_manager.zip (http://www.webidz.com/downloads/auction_manager.zip)

We made some slight changes to prevent such errors on our side again, as well as help us track update or software issues. From this point forward, each version of the Auction Manager will have a unique name. The current version above is "WAM 1.49". When newer versions are released, the program will update accordingly. But will still have the name "WAM 1.49". Users that download and install newer versions, the software will have the appropriate name for the initial install version.

Now when users have an issue, we can ask what version they are running. This way if there are update or other issues for a specific version, we can do a "recall", so to speak. Also the method of users having to uninstall the program, then remove root folders before installing a newer version will now be a thing of the past.

With so many versions, troubleshooting issue can sometimes become confusing. We feel this new method will make it much easier for us, as well as the users of this software.

Admin,

Sorry to be a pain, but am letting you know that I experienced a problem downloading the updates that you made available today. I had been listing with WAM, and was going good for me. Then I had to shut down due to problems on my end. When I started up my computer again, and went to open WAM, I was informed that there were 2 updates waiting to download. You can understand my excitement...maybe my problem with my Repatoo would be fixed. So naturally I clicked yes to the download question. Well, I only got 1 download, and after waiting about 10 minutes for the second to begin, it did not, so I clicked the ok button and figured I missed the second one. I have a feeling that I missed something. as now I seem to be locked out of WAM.

Now for the problems that I am experiencing.... When I click the WAM icon, I get a box that says LoadAuctionColumns with a message in the box stating Root Element is missing....When I click OK, WAM version 1.4.9.0 opens. When I go to the "a" template where my Repatoo is stored, I double click to open it I get yet another message box "Edit Template Details" with a box for "Auto-Relist (Optional)" and a gray box.
and a box for "Options with Fees (Optional)" again with an empty gray box.

I then found your post for the update (listed above), so am now downloading that, and I only have dial-up available to me, as I live in a rural area. So this is taking forever... I am not faulting you, or anyone, just my luck. Anyway I thought that I would let you know and hopefully this is not a problem with the update, but me.

Just FYI, I guess.....

Roz,

Our most recent version is 1.4.9.14, so it appears your version is not updating correctly. I do not believe this is an issue on your end, but rather an issue with our last versions update process. When looking into mj's issue above, we found such compilation issues. This is why we are changing over to the format I mentioned above. So we can track and deal with issues better.

I was hoping by providing the fix in the update, the issue could be resolved without members having to do anything. But evidently I was wrong.

I am very sorry for this inconvenience, but you may have to uninstall the current version, then install the new version. You can export your information before uninstalling, then import back into the new version.

What issue are you having with the repatoo banner? If you are using the new code that pete provided, it should work.

But when someone else is responsible, I could see where someone could get very upset. We greatly appeciate your patience with us. Admin,

Just checked and things are running faster tonight, probably less traffic... it is already down to about an hour to download, and I just started. As for being negative, why? What will it get me? Grumpy, I like to :D

I did figure out why my listing are not showing up with font, size, color change. I have been doing cut and paste from catalog on CD, I have to type everything in to get it to show up the way I want.

No biggie, I am here anyway....

Just download your new version and the same error comes up when i try to download the master data! (wrong username or password) Below is the error message but it is only 1 error in it this time! Last time was 2

mj,

Did you uninstall the previous version before installing this version? Or did you complete a "repair" install? The update url in your error log is not in the new version. What is the name that shows for the newly installed program?

It should not be v1.4.8... It should be v1.4.9

Let me recheck this

Are you downloading from the below url, or another url?

http://www.webidz.com/downloads/auction_manager.zip (http://www.webidz.com/downloads/auction_manager.zip)

I just downloaded from that url on another PC. Completed install, and v1.49 installed. When you got that text from the error log, was it in a folder named "WAM 1.49"?

I am wondering if your PC is pulling this from your temporary internet files, since you have downloaded before. Possibly clearing your temporary internet files, then try downloading again?

mj-trading
02-10-2008, 11:50 PM
This time we deleted the temp files, cookies, wam in c file and download the link on the last message you gave and the WAM 1.49 downloaded this time! We got the same message when tried to do the master data! (wrong username or password) below is what was in the error file this time

2/11/08 12:41:57 AM CommonMethods Could not load file or assembly 'http://www.test.webidz.com/auction_manager_update/amupdate.exe' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

PS It also says Test Auction Manager on it

admin
02-11-2008, 08:28 AM
In your C:\Program Files, do you have a "test auction manager" folder? If so, what files are in this folder? Have you previously installed the test auction manager version?

I am going to have our programmers look into why this could be happening. It appears there are old files that it is reading from.

The only thing in my c files is WAM 1.49

admin
02-11-2008, 07:06 PM
I am thinking it may be due to something regarding other users on the PC. When you are installing, you have the option to make it available to other users... I am wondering if some files configure elsewhere to allow other identities to use, and are not properly removed during install. I am waiting back from our programmers on this.

I was using Auction manager and a couple of days ago, I also got the box about 2 new updates, downloaded them, and then I also got the Root Element is missing warning. Plus, all my templates were now about 1/4 of the usual size. I have now uninstalled Auction manager and reinstalled it 3 times and it is not working properly. I am unable to change fonts and colors and sizes in my description field and save it successfully. Each time I change the style color etc, finish typing, click on save, when it reverts back to my template, the description field is empty. HELP

John,

I have attached a setting.xml file. Navigate to your install directory and insert this file. If it ask you if you want to overwrite the existing file, choose yes. I believe this should resolve your issue

We have removed the auto updates until we get these issues resolved. One issue we found was the setting.xml file is not being updated properly. If you download this file, then insert into the auction manager install folder, this should resolve your display issue.

Currently the html editor has to be saved while on the "preview" screen. Saving on the "source" screen is not saving correctly for some reason, and we are looking into this. So if you save while on the preview screen, this should save correctly for you.

I have been trying to save my stuff in the Preview screen. It is the Preview screen that is not working. And how do i add that file to the install folder??

admin

This file should resolve the preview screen issue. You would just need to download the zip file, and remove the setting.xml file from the zip file. Then copy the file to the original install directory of the auction manager.

The default directory for install would be "C:\program files\webidz auction manager".... or "C:\program files\WAM 1.49". Depending on what version you originally installed.

When copying the file to the install directory, if you receive a prompt asking if you want to overwrite an existing file, select yes.

That's great mj. I only wish I could some simple directions from admin. Firstly, when I download Auction Manager, the "extract Files" that I see on my screen, is that the same as unzipping? Then, I see 2 folders and 2 setup icons. One of the setup icons installs a Test Auction manager, what is with that? Can someone give me simple steps I can follow in order to get a functioning Auction Manager onto my computer??

Where did you download that from? The only file in the zip is "setting.xml".

http://www.webidz.com/downloads/setting.zip

To navigate to the install directory you would open "my computer". Then open your hard drive which is usually "C". Then open "program files". You will now see a bunch of folders that contain various programs on your computer. Find the auction manager folder, which should be named either "webidz auction manager" or "wam 1.49". Open the folder and place the setting.xml file in that folder. If you receive a prompt that says the file already exists, select yes to overwrite.

Please let us know where you downloaded the test auction manager, so we can remove.

Could you do this for me. Pretend I am an absolute computer illiterate person. Give me a step by step where to go, what buttons to click, does extract equal unzip etc, so that I can go from start to finish and have a functioning Auction manager on my computer? You can email it to me or post it here, but I just wanna start listing and selling.

I just downloaded Auction manager from the link provided in post #6 of this thread. It gave me a folder WAM1.49, and in the left bar, there was an icon to extract all files. I did. A new window opened with 2 folders and 2 setip icons. Folder 1 was dotnetfx or something like that, folder #2 was MAC28 or something like that, 1st setup icon was a square, 2ns setup icon was a computer with a disk etc. I clicked on that setup icon, it opened the wizard and lo and behold, I have the Test Auction Manager on my computer.....AGAIN

now download this http://www.webidz.com/downloads/setting.zip and extract to the same file you put the othe download in! A message will come up saying (do you want to replace this! Click Yes!
Now delete the folder the zip came in! NOT the WAM 1.49 one! Then click on the icon that says WAM 1.49 and it should come up! Then it will say this is your 1st time so fill in your log in and password an dnothig else then click save! Go on top and download the master data! When that is done go on the top of the page and find preference fill it all in except your categories! Then click save! Go on top again and click Transfer from webidz! This will take awhile to connect but when it does it will transfer your auctions to WAM

Hope this helps

I kind of get what you are saying, but I still have a problem. I download from thread 6 and do the extract, and that file gets buried somewhere in my hard drive. Once I click on that second link, how do I extract it to the same file when I can't find the 1st one. And when do I do my preferences, between the 2 steps or after step 2??
I really need a step by step including links and when to use them in one message, that I can follow from a to z

You already have the program installed, so you do not need to download the program again. You just need to download the setting.xml file (link below). Older versions did not remove the xml file, and it is not overwritten during new installs. So various connect details and other needed entries are not contained in new installs, when an old version was initially installed.

I am still looking for any old downloads. If anybody happens to find a download for the auction manager that is in a place other than ...downloads/auction_manager.zip, please let us know by either providing the download url, or the page the download is on.

http://www.webidz.com/downloads/setting.zip

Extract to your desktop, so you know where is is at. Right click the setting.xml file and choose "cut" from the drop down menu. Now navigate to the install folder (instructions below):

To navigate to the install directory you would open "my computer". Then open your hard drive which is usually "C". Then open "program files". You will now see a bunch of folders that contain various programs on your computer. Find the auction manager folder, which will be named "WAM 1.49". Open the folder. Right click inside the folder and choose "paste" from the drop down menu. If you receive a prompt that says the file already exists, select yes to overwrite.

Now open the program by clicking the shortcut icon that is on your desktop. I am copying below the instructions for initial use of the progam from our instructions page, which I have linked at the end of this post, so you can use for future reference.

Preferences and master data:
After installation, a shortcut to WeBidz Auction Manager will be placed on your desktop. Double click the icon on your desktop (this is how you will access WeBidz Auction Manager in the future). A window will pop up, stating that you are running the program for the first time, and that you need to set up your preferences. Click the OK button and the user preferences page will appear. This page contains your WeBidz user info, as well as your pre-defined preferences for your auctions. Only enter your username and password for now, then click the save button. You will come back to this page later to fill in the rest of your preferences.

From the file menu, choose download master data. Now click the download button to populate your auction manager program with all the necessary categories, payment options, currencies, etc. Click the finish button once this is completed.

From the tools menu, choose preferences (this is the screen that you initially entered your username and password). Fill in all entries with the info that you want to automatically be included when creating new auctions.

NOTE: If you select any online payments (direct pay), you must set up these options up in your members area on the site first. Otherwise this will not work properly for you.

Take and go to your add and delete in the control panel and select WAM 1.49! Click delete! A message will pop up saying ( do you want to delete or repair) click delete! Then do that and then go to (my computer click on c filles, then programs then look for the file WAM 1.49! Delete it!
Now go to that link in #6 download it! When it is done you'll get the zip program box up and click except! Then it will load the files and zip box will come up! Look at the uper left of the box and it will say something like (were you want this to go! Scroll on it until it say something like c:files/DESKTOP leave it on that one then click Extract! When that is done then download the 2nd link i gave you and put that into the same folder as you did above ( c:files/DESKTOP) When that is all done you will see a icon on your desktop that says WAW click on it and click on the computer icon without the disk in front of it! This will then download the WAM program! When all done you will see another icon on your desktop! Leave that one (the new one) on there! That is your icon to start the WAM ! Delete the 1st WAM icon you got on your desk top! Then when done click on the icon you saved and go from there of what i said before!!

But, in a new auction. when I go to the description field, and it is in preview not source, it will not save anything. piazza,

That is actually a known issue, and has nothing to do with your install. If you enter data into the preview panel, click over to the source panel before saving. Then it will save correctly. This was just reported a few days ago, so we will be providing a fix for this some time soon.

John,

hmmm... I am not sure about this? Is anybody else running win 98? Possibly a resources issue. I know you had running previously, but we have added quite a few additional processes since then.

NOTE: Dell is a pretty good computer, but have problems with the heat sync if not properly cooled (applies to most laptops). I would suggest investing a few extra dollars on a cooling dock. I do not use myself, and I have to get new laptops every 9-12 months.

Thank you so much for your patience with me, and hopefully it will not happen again...Now that I know the secret for me is to read the directions throughly and follow them...

Thank again Admin, once again, you have lived up to the "S" on your chest...You are SUPER!!!! :D

I am so glad this is working for you. This program should not be so difficult, so it should be us thanking you for your patience with us. This program is still in its infancy, so it should get easier and more functional with each update.

Looks like I am good to rock n roll on WeBidz. Now, one more simple question. On eBays Turbo Lister, it would prompt me to backup every seven days. How does backing up my inventory work here? I just don't want to encounter another issue, like the one a few days ago, when it said there were downloads, but my end result was that Root element is missing message, plus losing 75% of each item's info.

And when I do that, say everything does go down and I need to restore, where does that file get buried on my hard drive?

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Where did you get it through? We go through tigerdirect.com for most of our computers. They have really good deals and offer warranties on all products, including refurbished.

We have a very easy to use backup function. If you select "backup auctions" from the file menu, you can save all your auctions and profile info. When completing, it will give you a browse button. So you will browse your computer to find where you want to save, and give the file a name. So just be sure to remember where you put it, and what you named it. You would most likely want to browse to "my documents" folder, or similar folder where you store other info.

Then when you want to restore everything, you would just choose "restore auctions" from the file menu. Then browse to find the file that you previously saved.
