I notice that many people, sellers, put something up for auction starting at .99 when, let say, the item is worth $50.00( hypothetical situation) The buyer ends up buying for .99 because he was the only person to bid. Is it worth making .99 when you have to go wrap the item, take it to the post office, and hope it gets to the buyer. It seems like alot of trouble. How do people profit with this kind of auction? I know this is probably a seems like a stupid question;however, maybe someone can shed a little light on this issue.

:D Lisa, If I were going to put up even a $20.00 item for .99 cent, I would have to put\
some sort of reserve, because even if it got a couple of low bids, it would lose money.
Also, No it doesn't seem worth it, but I do it all the time to build my (off feebay reputation
and customer Base). Just maybe start with lower priced items: IE= small toys, books, small
jewelry items, things like that..Just a idea..All the very best to you and welcome!!

Some will bump up the shipping charges to compensate for the loss, others will say take a loss here or there to make a sale and build up feedback. I would rather do it the other way.....charge somewhere between wholesale and retail but lower my shipping and even eat a $1 or 2 on that or even offer free shipping once in a while.....course maybe that's why I couldn't stay in compitition on ebay.....but here's what it boils down to, some people want to get something for nothing (hence the .99) so sellers will frequently sell at that to build up a (hopefully return) customer base. I for one would be leary of anything that I purchased for .99 on the net.......dollar store okay......but on the net no way....sometimes the old saying you get what you paid for rings true. I love Lana to death but and I have bought from her but if she were listing say a genuine leather jacket adult size for .99......i may have to question that. If I truely wanted the jacket I would pay what it's worth so I know I'm getting the real thing.
