I see on your home page under the header "Popular Auctions" the very first link is for a Nazi flag! Does Webidz promote such crap? I had signed up hoping to sell here but if this is the kind of garbage you allow I don't think I will. Please respond so I can decide if it is worth my while listing items here.

Thank you,

I have briefly looked at the auction, and do not see any site policy or laws that this auction would violate. If it contained hate related language, then it would not be acceptable. When dealing with historical items, there is much potential for some people to not like or dissaprove, because of the era that the item(s) represent. Just because an item is allowed does not mean that we endorse the views of that era though.

The reason it is showing at the top of popular items is because it is currently the auction with the highest bid.

We would love to have you as an active member of our community, but understand and respect any decisions you decide to make.

Firstly, I want to give kudo's to Admin's response to this question. It was very well worded. being Jewish myself, I definitely feel some discomfort at flea markets when I encounter Nazi paraphanelia, but since I live in a free society where individuals are allowed to express thoughts etc or sell historical wares, I am able to accept it, albeit grudgingly. I remember in my youth, there used to be a guy wandering around town wearing a Gestapo uniform, and one of my friends said we should beat the crap out of him. My response was that doing that would only reduce us to his level. Anyway, not that this post has anything to do with selling or WeBidz, but since the thread was here, just wanted to add my 5c worth.

As a past dealer of many types of items I have seen people that get upset and others that appreciate the fact that history is history. If we forget it we make serious mistakes over and over. Some would say that wars could be avoided altogether if we looked more closely at the past. We live in area that flies the Confederate flag so often that we consider it too much and we are southern. I have sold KKK items in the past but never belonged to anything like that. I have been at auction where robes were sold just to see who bought them. While we all detest certain things we have to remember this is America and people died for these freedoms. Most of all I strongly believe we must remember history and respect those that do. I repeat myself but history teaches us not to repeat past mistakes. I also believe we would not be at war if we knew more about the people we are at war with. If we better understood how to deal with them and in some cases avoid them then much tension would be eliminated. If the items listed were not of interest from an historical point of view you would not see so much activity. As painful as it is to see for some it can prevent the same from happening again. It is called education. Each group of people that migrated to America came because of something or someone that made things very uncomfortable for them. Here we call it freedom, like it or not this is the best way. Slaves existed, people were murdered, some were tortured and some have forgoten that it is wrong even on our side of this current war. History needs to be remembered - it is so important.

Very well put Uncle.
Not that I agreed with the selling of that flag that had been listed, but, since we are a land of freedom then I didn't disagree with it either. Personally, if something was to come up, unless it was just totally something we should not have on here, I would more than likely not even open that auction and just pass it up. Maybe some would say that's kinda like puttin your head in the sand. Piazza said it well also, about encountering Nazzi belongings at flea markets. Those that lived during those occurrances know what went on. And still they choose to live life and not let it cripple them. Either live life or dwell on the past. I choose to live life and learn from the past so as to not make the mistakes of my elders. There are things that I would prefer my children not to see online, but history or any part thereof would not be one of those things.

Kathy, I truly understand you not wanting your children to see certain things. We only had one and he is now grown. You and I both know that schools are not the same as they used to be. You have really no control until it is to late over what happens at school. Many times our son came home and told us things against our very way of normal life that came from a teacher. These kids do get confused when you tell them one thing and a teacher tells them another. I am looking at this as an oportunity to open a conversation with your children about what is acceptable and what is not. It is in the end your responsibility to teach them the right way. Now what better time is there than when they see something they really should not have to see. Reality is that they will some day and it is better for you to be there when it does happen. I cannot believe the Godless things some teachers have told their classes. You might want to say, you will not believe what came up for auction today. A real symbol of hatred but you know it happened and we must learn from it.

Uncle, Me and my children have a very open relationship. I'm more referring to things that would wait until they are older. It is hard enough to raise kids in this world as it is. My children are 17, 13, and 9. I'm a lucky parent as we live in the small town where I myself grew up. It's pretty much the same. Where parents in the town look after all the children in town. Our school still believes in swats for children who choose to misbehave after so many chances to do the right thing. I give my kids 3 chances to make the right decision in my house before punishment. If they choose the wrong action, the consequences are swats. I happen to agree with this policy. Some parents do not believe this is the way, but the school here tells me all the time that those parents like myself, have some of the best behaved kids in the school. I have not had to swat my kids in so long, I don't think I could find the belt (ssshhh don't tell them that). It's not the actual swat that keeps my kids in line. It's the knowledge that it will come if they make the wrong choice.
Some of the kids that I went to school with are now teachers in the school. I'm in no way saying our town is free from crime, but it is never overlooked as it is in some of the bigger cities. Yes we have some kids who have done drugs. They don't push it on the kids who don't. And they have suffered the consequences of doing so. I'm grateful that my kids don't have to walk home and be scared that someone is waiting on the street corner to try to get them to buy.
There are things on the internet I would rather not have my 13 yr old daughter see. Or my 9 yr old son.
Like I said, there is a difference in stuff that my children do not need to be seeing as they walk by while I work online, and history.

I don't see any problem with selling things that cause an emotional reaction. I have a few things that I want to show my children some day so they have a real world examples however it doesn't mean I endorse the ideology of what that things represents.

Children should probably not be on an auction site anyhow. But if they are I don't think a Nazi flag is something that should be hidden from view, in fact if the child asks about it, it is a great time to open up a history discussion and rent a good movie on the atrocities of WWII.

Many people collect the memorabilia for classroom purposes, family history, etc. It is not always collected because someone has a belief system that most of us find sickening.

That's just my opinion for what it's worth.
