I was scanning through some coin auctions and found Auction ID: 1494107 (http://www.webidz.com/-US-COIN1870-CC-TRADE-SILVER-for-Carson-City,name,1494107,auction_id,auction_details) for an 1870 US Trade Dollar. This auction is fake. This coin was never made by the US Mint. Go here (http://www.coinfacts.com/silver_dollars/trade_dollars/trade_dollars.html) for a complete listing of Trade Dollar mintages.

I just think it is horrible havnig all of these fake items up for sale on this site. I know many of the coins are fake and I am highly suspect of most of the high-end fashion purses going for 1/10th or less the actual value. People are going to see this and not want to shop here. Hopefully admin can do something about it.

I absolutely agree with you, Joe..I have even reported a few myself. This is for our
Admin to decide though. I hope folks will take a lot of pride in the items that they sell and
list items accordingly. Once again..many thanks!!
(BTW, on another site, not here), I used to see 'fake' antique/depression glass at sites for
antique book prices. JB and I could buy ANY of the stuff at our wholesale houses for
like $1.00-$5.00(WE DIDN'T:)) and these folks were starting out at 'that site' for $30.00!! Made me sick,
as I knew glass and pottery extremely well and they RUINED the market. Some items listed
as 'cobalt blue' were NEVER made in cobalt blue..and the NEW item was blue, but was NOT
COBALT.(now I had MY rant!! :D(REASON I GOT SO ANNOYED, JB & I DID PROFESSIONAL
GLASS AND POTTERY SHOWS).
Thanks JOE

Stuff like that bothers me too. I actually collect Carnival Glass and it is disgusting to see the fake stuff listed as original. I will admit that people can make mistakes, but most of the time it is intentional.

Joe,

Thanks for this report, we will immediately look into this issue. Because we are not experts on any specific type of product, we rely on such reports from members like yourself or copyright owners. We have been getting quite a few big name manufacturers working with us, and increased reports from our members. So we have been hitting fake and counterfeit items pretty hard the last few months. Just because we may think something is not authentic, does not always allow us to remove items. If we are wrong in a judgement call, it could lead to legal implications for us.

If any members see items that they know are fake, and know where to find supporting documentation, please let us know. Reports such as Joe has provided are excellent, as he is providing documentation for us to investigate the claim. If we receive a report of "I think this item is fake", we will look into the report. Many times we will research for hours, and not be able to find supporting documentation that will allow us to remove such items.

If there are items from a specific manufacturer that you think is fake, please feel free to contact the manufacturer of the item. You would not be getting us in trouble, as these manufacturers will simply report the issue to us and we would remove such items.

Thank you for taking action on this. Unfortunately, fake silver dollars from China and other Asian nations are a huge problem in the numismatics trade. I suspect most, if not all, of that seller's other coins are fake, but as they are legitimate dates it is hard to say for sure. I base this suspicion on the price they are willnig to sell these rarer date coins for. Unfortunately, I am not an expert on thses things.

Sometimes there are typo's in the listing (like listing 1870, but meant to put 1880). But this auction actually had a picture of the 1870 coin, which we did find that it does not exist. If a seller is listing one counterfeit coin, chances are very high that others are also counterfeit. This type of listing is not only a violation of site policy, but it is also against the law. We have absolutely no tolerance when it comes to these types of violations. When we have concrete evidence of such, we remove all auctions and suspend the account in question. We appreciate this report, and welcome any future reports you may have.

More fake coins: auction id 1529465 (http://www.webidz.com/US-COINS-181718401845187618901947-SILVER-DOLLAR,name,1529465,auction_id,auction_details) lists and shows a picture of a 1947 Morgan dollar (Bottom center coin). This coin was never made. See mintage figures here (http://www.coinfacts.com/silver_dollars/morgan_dollars/morgan_silver_dollars.html). The upper right coin shows an 1817 Trade Dollar. This coin was also never made (http://www.coinfacts.com/silver_dollars/trade_dollars/trade_dollars.html).

I spotted this one also. They must just guess when they put the dates on the fake coins.
