Have you downloaded master data from the file menu, before importing or creating auctions? When importing a csv/excel file, if the category on your list is not recognized it will ask you to choose an alternate category. Did you receive any such prompts? If so, did you choose a category from those provided?

If the master data is not imported, then the auction manager will have no categories available. You only need to complete this when initially using the program. If you see additional categories added to the site at a later date, you can run this again to update your local databases category structure.

I downloaded master data and that seems to not help.
The category is in the initial upload. It is also there when I transfer it to "waiting to upload". I can only get it to work if I go individually open the item and save it.

Did you reimport the items? As that is when the categories, currency, duration, etc are assigned to all the auctions. Your auctions that you imported before downloading master data would not be affected by this action, as this only populates your local database with the current auctions available on the site.
I would suggest deleting all your prior imported auctions, then reimporting. As the software now has the various options available, and will assign each accordingly when you are promted.
