When I add 1.65 in the insurance space on the sell item form, am I making insurance automatically required or is it optional?

Thanks!

Its just my opinion but I see it as you letting them know how much it will be if they choose it. I require it on breakables and say so in the description. Been burned in the past on items not insured. Live and learn.

I also consider it optional and add the amount so that the buyer knows how much the insurance would cost should they choose it.

Agree with the two above...........If you want to make it required, say so in your description, then if you have someone that makes a purchase, when you send an invoice then include that in the amount they need to pay.

Below is what we been using for years! Use it if you want folks!

Insurance is optional and recommended as we are NOT responsible for the package once it leaves the post office or shipping co.

Thanks! I just wanted to make sure that insurance was optional. I lost 101 items when Webidz crashed last week and had relisted about 90 of them (I don't use an auction manager - WAM and Turbo Lister both want to argue with me too much) as of last night when it dawned on me that there was not a clickable thingy to make insurance optional or required and I was afraid I'd have to edit all 90 re-listed items.

And no, it's not any problem with WAM... I think it's me.... my new digital camera is much smarter than I am and it doesn't allow any argument at all. I despise that red hand symbol on the picture viewer! I can have 20 lights and have the camera sitting on a flat hard surface and it still tells me that there's not enough light or that I jiggled the camera and blurred the picture. :D

Gotta quit using those disposible camera's ! :D You also have a section in your store on company policy that you can use for insurance. Still pays to add it to your description. Tell you a little story. On another site in another lifetime I once sold a woman - not a lady but a woman four very hard to find bowls. They were worth over $50.00 each. I listed them at a low starting point and did not get enough bids and had no reserve. - Lost money on the bowls, thats ok it happens - the woman would not let me ship priority, went every bit of fifty cent cheaper with parcel post. refused insurance - did not want to run the cost up. We all know parcel goes by truck most of the time and priority goes by air. Parcel get tossed around and handled much more - NO insurance. I packed better than the factory that made them does. Three broke! or at least she claimed they did. One was worth several times what she paid for all of them. Instead of contacting me about it - this woman gave me bad feedback. I have never forgotten that. If its breakable it gets insured or it does not go. You never ever know how a package gets handled after it leaves your hand. Did not cost those gorilla's anything and they don't care. Breakable - require insurance. No joke!
