View Full Version : Is this group a success?

Being a positive and results oriented person, I requested from admin that we start a sports group, to both help the community with a new forum to discuss sports related topics, as well as give direction to the items I sell, all sportscards. I have started many threads but found the discussion to be very limited, and replies scarce. Now we all know sports are very popular in the USA. The threads ran from NCAA basketball to baseball to the Olympics. I wonder if the community would deem this group to being a success or not? I for one would love to see someone start a new thread......

Phil,
I am offering you some advice, if someone post a reply to your thread, it would be nice to get some type of response from the person that they replied to. Since this is your thread and so far you are the only that has posted I would expect you to reply. That is how conversations and discussions work.
I have now replied to two different threads, neither time did you reply, no one wants to reply to something and have it end there. I don't know anything about sports the only sport that I really have a grasp on is baseball, thanks to my 5 brothers playing little league back in the '60s so my knowledge is limited. I also enjoy the Olympics, there you learn about the sport and can enjoy them mostly without the $$$ being involved, as much as the professional sports.
Just my thoughts,
Roz

Success is what you make of it (hope that made sense).
Play like I know nothing about baseball, or any other sport for that matter. Which BTW, wouldn't be much effort as I really don't know.
I watch OU football (on TV when it's televised) and Dibble Demon football( I get to do this in person for little cost). Also watch rodeos (if you can count that as a sport) on TV.That's the extent of my sports.
Get others interested and teach them what the game is about. Draw interest to your topic.
No it may never lead Me to buy or collect baseball cards. But people do find knowledge interesting. And what people find interesting, they tend to want to know more, and may purchase some cards to get the information in writing, on something they can hand down to their kids.
Like who won the world series in 1962? Tell us about that person. Others may know facts that you don't and are just gonna jump at the chance to add or prove you wrong. That draws a debate, which in turn draws attention, which in turn may land a customer.
Just givin some opinion.

Thanks for both of your responses. I guess threads like the one I started about memorable sporting events was a key. I am sure some of those who read it must have some sort of sports event in their lives, be it as high school game, track event, something that stuck in their mind. But nobody posted anything. That is the area that continues to surprise me. I start threads that hopefully may start some conversation or debate, and not only about baseball, take the Olympics. I know things grow slow but I have never been one to watch the paint dry or the grass grow lol

On 3/6 you started the thread "My Predictions (http://community.webidz.com/showthread.php?t=3839)" and within 4 hrs I replied. No other replies, not even from you, oddly at the time I remember you were online, and when I checked "Who's Online" you were reading the post. Just a tip, you need to refresh the screen to see if someone has replied to you. Or better yet move out of the post and just keep an eye on the "latest replies" column, of upon refreshing your screen.
I also replied to your thread "Olympic Games in China (http://community.webidz.com/showthread.php?t=6640)", I know that you started that post on 4/29, and I did not reply to it until 5/3, but was unsure about you replying, as you did not reply to the previous post. Finally went out on the limb and replied. Still no response.
So now that you have started this thread I replied again, you have responded but am unsure which post you responded to.
So maybe this group is not a success, although I feel that you have not put much effort into building it. Yes you start threads, but you do not nuture them to keep them alive.
You have stated a few times that you are not getting any interest in your auctions, and now you are saying you don't feel that there is much interest in your posts. So does that tell you anything? There are not many avid sports that care to post here at this time.

I guess one difference we have is on replies to posts, and how fast one should respond. But I beg to differ on whether I have made an effort here. When I posted a thread with a challenge to see who might be the 1st one besides myself to start a new thread, on any topic, nobody bit. So maybe how you ended your post is true, there are no sports fans at all on WeBidz. But, if that is the case, then am I also wasting my time trying to sell sportscards here?

piazzapizza there maybe or may not be buyers here for sport cards but you can bring a new type of buyer
here on webidz if you just give it time. now i know it may take awhile to build up a new item in here that no one
else sells but you will be the first to and you will have no compition here.
just be patient fine ways to advertise this and take adventage of it
all i can say is keep listing your items here and other sites there is alot of other sites to sell on.

That's exactly what I am trying to do, I have to believe that there are collector's out there who look elsewhere than the bay.

Theres all kinds of free sites that you can post you links to your store (s)
find site that are interested in the stuff you sell register with them and be
active in there forums (make sure you banner (s)) leading to your store are
in your posts
the more you get your link out in forums or other methods the better you
will do in the search engines.
make sure all your post are positive anything else will do you no good
will just turn protental costumers away.
here s an earlier post i made.
i noticed today was experamenting with google search and found out
the more you post in here actually pulls attention to your store
heres some examples
searched katandron1
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search
searched Lanascountry
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search
Searched sniperace66
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...66&btnG=Search
so the more you are active here will get your store noticed alot more then
you think.
heres a link referer site i use and it works to bring in protental costumers

Hello piazzapiazza and all Webidders,
I would like to have this group be a success and for more groups to grow. I'm not a big chatter myself, but I think that word of mouth is a definate way to expand the footprint of Webidz.
I have a few sports cards for sale, but I'm not a sports person myself. I'm more of a book and role playing person.
But, Webidz will be built only with determination. Keep up the good work. I will list more sports cards and stickers and try to keep diversifying.
Keep up the good work, Richard.

I can't get my banner into my regular email. Lana had sent me the html stuff but it would not load. Checked with my provider and they confirmed that their webmail does not support banners. So I simply arranged my signature to include the webidz site plus my store name. Thanks for the leads.
