View Full Version : Feedback import options from Repatoo

admin

Many members have expressed much interest in displaying their feedback from other auction sites. We do not have this functionality within our system, and will most likely not be implementing on WeBidz.

Over the last couple months we have been speaking with Pete over at repatoo.com, which provides such feedback services that many of our members have expressed such interest in. This thread is to introduce this company, so our members can discuss and ask questions to them. To see if this service is something that would work for our members. A representative from this company should be along shortly to introduce themselves, and answer questions you may have.

Hi and thank you for the introduction.

The driving force behind our creation of the Repatoo tool was the repeated frustration we experienced with the major auction sites and the power that they have had over our ability to sell fairly online. When Yahoo! unexpectedly closed their auction site in June of this year, we had had enough!

We currently support displaying feedback from following 10 sites: eBay, Yahoo!, Amazon, WeBidz, ePier, eCrater, Plunderhere, Bidtopia, Bidville and eBid. We are always looking to add to this list and are open to suggestions.

One question that I would like to pre-emptively answer is surrounding the use of passwords on the site. Our initial design required that you enter your auction site passwords to verify that you are indeed the true owner of the account. For security reasons we are moving away from this practice. While you are still certainly welcome to do so, we recommend that when setting up your account, you do not enter your passwords and use our alternate verification process that asks you to enter a text string into the "about me" section of each auction account you would like to associate with your account.

Other than that we are very open to questions and suggestions.

Thanks!

-Pete

Forgot one thing:

Once you have set you account up, you can create "badges" that display your aggregate feedback score link to your feedback details on Repatoo which can then be embedded in your profile or auctions. They look something like this:

http://beta.repatoo.com/images/repatoo_badge_demo.gif

(Note: an active badge will be a link to your feedback details on Repatoo)

Hey there, Pete!! A warm welcome to WEBIDZ..as you know, I have been using the
beta test for awhile and I really REALLY like it..I do have one question, when it shows
my 'other' HUGE site it shows a negative from SEVEN years ago..a NON PAYING BIDDER.
First it is supposed to show the FB for 1 YEAR..I have 100% and that one RED point looks
awful..Just a suggestion..IF a person has ONE out of THOUSANDS, could you please not
make the red so large and BRIGHT??:D
I am SOOOOO for Webidz using this regularly, but is up to Admin, and the community!!\
Thanks Pete, and DON'T be a stranger!! :)

Hi Lana:

Thanks for the warm welcome.

As for your request There are two things that can be done.

Short term: Create a "badge" as shown above, which will display your aggregate score and percentage, w/o showing the details. (note: the auction accounts that you want added to this badge must be confirmed). This would at least show that you are reputable and have 100% positive FB.

Long Term: The solution that we are proposing is that we will "forgive" negative FB(similar to the way that negative items fall off of your credit report). The preliminary requirements that we are considering are:

Negative FB must be older than 1 year
Seller must have greater than a 99.5% positive FB rating
Seller must have less than 2 negative FB total

These are just guidelines right now, and we haven't implemented anything, but we think it would give an accurate picture of sellers who have a single (or very few) bad feedback detail(s). Comments?

admin
01-15-2008, 11:02 AM
I do not think that feedback "falling off" would be a good idea. As this is going to open the door to manipulating these ratings, and others could loose trust in such a system.

I think the option of not displaying the totals would be fine, or if users would like to see it displayed differently would be fine. But I would think changing the numbers is going to have a negative reflection on the repatoo system.

Just my thoughts...

repatoo

I am actually of the same mindset as the admin and would prefer not to change the system, but am open to suggestion and the community development process...

I wasn't asking about anything shady at all. !.I just noticed that my one little neg. in RED
(a NON-PAYING-BIDDER/retaliation)out of over 3,000 just stands out so..no I do NOT believe
in any sort of data manipulation and that is obvious everywhere I have ever been. So Pete, do you
think that eventually we at WEBIDZ might be included in that drop down file of sites to check??:D
Overstock, Hibidder, LOTS more??
Thanks!!

repatoo
01-15-2008, 06:32 PM
LOL Lana. I know you don't want to manipulate the data and try to be shady, but I can certainly see where less-than-honest people could try to take advantage and devalue the system as a whole. I would definitely recommend signing in and creating a "badge" that will display your total feedback and positive percentage... so for your other auction account, it would just show your score: 2026, and the fact that you have 100% percent positive feedback.

As for your other question......... it's already there!!!! We have support for: WeBidz, Plunderhere, Bidville, eBid, ePier, eCrater, Bidtopia as well as the "big three" (eBay, Amazon, Yahoo!). We are planning on adding others as requests come in, and Hibidder is on the list.

However, for technical reasons, in order for your WeBidz account (as well as many of the other independent auction sites) to show up in the search results, you have to actually add it to your account. But once it has been added, you will see it in the search results.

JUST hit 2131 a few minutes ago, Pete!! :D
Pete, we sincerely appreciate what you are doing...I think it is SUPER and everyone
NEEDS to let folks KNOW their history in the OAC if they are to move on and prosper!!
I think this system is GREAT!! I am gonna go recheck those different logo/templates you
have!! Again sincere thanks..BTW, our ADMIN is the nicest and BEST in the OAC! (IMHO):D

Thanks! If I ever need a cheerleader, I know where to turn :D

One thing worth mentioning regarding creating a badge that displays your feedback. To prevent shady people from trying to create badges with other people's feedback ratings, only verified auction acconts will be included in the badge. Therefore, you must have at least one verified auction account on your Repatoo account in order to create a badge. Just FYI :)

I went to Repatoo, and created and verified my account, now how do I get the badge to follow me to Webidz.com? I am not real smart when it comes to this part of the computer, so you may need to stay nearby while I do it, or at least give me pretty simple directions.:o

Thanks,

LOL. No problem. I will try to explain it here, but will be more then happy to hold your hand if you can't figure it out.

Login to your account
Click on the "Get Links" tab
Select the style of badge that you want (I am assuming you want the one on the bottom row, so click the little button next to it
Click the big green "Create" button
Highlight the generated HTML code and copy it
Insert it wherever you like

Don't hesitate to ask me for additional directions. You can email me directly at pete at repatoo dot com.

Just to let everyone know...

We are currently running a promotion at Repatoo that asks you to refer your friends and family to the site. In exchange, we are offering up a valuable piece of virtual real estate on our home page where the weekly randomly selected winner will be able to place a link/banner to their store or homepage (or anything else within reason). For each friend that you refer, you get one entry and for each one of them that sign-up for Repatoo, you get two more entries.

We get about 1,000-1,500 unique page views per day, so it should hopefully provide the winner with some descent exposure!

repatoo

Roz: "business" would imply that I actually made money doing this ;)

MJ: What looks like is happening is that your user name on your Bidville store and feedback page is capitalized. We check to make sure that you have entered the correct name, and thus they are case sensitive. Try logging in, deleting your current Bidville account and re-entering it with capital letter. Let me know if that works for you.

Roz: Are you saying that your WeBidz account is not adding properly to your Repatoo account? If so, let me know and I will look more at it...

repatoo
04-09-2008, 04:43 PM

Hey all:

We just beta released an enhancement related to our badges that help to enhance the security of our site.

As you can see in my badge below, it now shows my WeBidz name, 'sneakypete' (i know not the best user name to garner trust ;) ). More importantly, it will dynamically change the user name displayed depending upon the site on which it is placed. So, if it were on eBay, my badge would display 'petebishop', if it were on any other site that I have associated on my Repatoo account it will show the respective user name. That way, potential buyers can be sure that the feedback badge that you display is in fact yours.

To get yours sign on to your Repatoo (http://beta.repatoo.com) account, select the "Get Links" tab and select the "Dynamic Dynamic" badge (wow, I am really bad with coming up with names for things).

-pete

Oh, and keep in mind that this is a beta release of this tool... so definitely let me know if you have issues or suggestions. Thanks!

Repatoo is a free service that gives online auction users the ability to bring together all of their feedback from other sites in one place and display it here on WeBidz (in the form of badges... see the one in my signature for an example).

If you have other questions, let me (or anyone else here) know and I can walk you through it.

I managed to create an account, but now i can't log in anymore.

If i click on Log in, he shows the log in fields for a sec and falls back to the search page.

Hi Srira HandCraft:

Thanks for signing up. I apologize for any difficulties that you are experiencing.

I checked the site and didn't see any immediate reason why you would be encountering this error. If it is not too much trouble, could I ask which URL you are accessing the site from (http://beta.repatoo.com or http://www.repatoo.com) and which browser you are using (including version, e.g.: Internet Explorer 6.1, etc.).

I will get one of my testers to try to re-create the problem that you are having.

Well that is a real noggin-scratcher...

Not to sound like a typical technology customer service representative, but could you try clearing your browser's cache (maybe you have a corrupt copy of the page in your cache)?

Lana is right, we are continuing to add sites as quickly as we can. In fact we have such a back log of sites to add that "as quickly as we can" has not been particularly quick as of late. However, I will definitely add "allestekoop" to the list (I don't think they are on there yet ;) )

I tried to go to the site direct in the browser and via your own label in this forum.

If i click on Log in, the 2 login windows appear (new customer and already customer), but as soon as the page is fully loaded, the windows disappear.

Is it possible that is has something to do with my settings in the advanced browser menu?

The code that starts like above with the "URL" goes into your signature file here in the community. Click on "User CP" (in the upper blue band) to edit your signature. You can also include your WeBidz Store logo & link in your siggie here.

<a href='http://www.repatoo

This code with the "href" goes into your auction listing - you will have to click on the <> (in the item description box) to get it added properly.

Hope this helps,

Edit:
Oops, almost forgot! If you have opened a store - The code with the "href" can be added to your main store page: Go to My Store> Main Settings. You'll have to click on the <> here also to get it added properly.

Mr J of M&J Trading posted about a cool site counter - somewhere in these forums - that can be added to the main store page.
