to see if sellers will post overseas - like where I am.

I was hoping to buy some small items to begin with - to get my feedback going - so buyers would have some confidence in me - but I have found it difficult to know if they will send to Australia or not - without directly asking them.

It is probably right under my nose - just wanted to ask.

Sorry I haven't been around fora day or so - trying to get number of listings up and running - taking a fair amount of time to do that so I haven't been into the forums very much in the last day or so.

It is 10.00pm here on Monday night.

Good morning or is it good day where you are!

To be honest most that have shipped out of the country don't anymore because we are all to lazy to deal with the extra paperwork. It is not that big a deal but now with the feedback issues at the other site it brings up more questions. Is it worth it? Even on a small item your cost is going to be higher and takes longer to get to you. A bigger chance of damage and therefore a possibility of bad feedback. A negative for an item that did not make any real money makes you think twice.

Your best possibility is to find things you like that fall into the price range you want and contact the seller by private message and come to an agreement both can live with. So much better than having 100 people say yes bring it on and then having problems and hard feelings later.

Straight one line answer most will if you discuss it first. They can get help at the post office if they don't know what to do. You need to choose folks you feel you can trust to ship without insurance because that will run up the cost - otherwise pay for the insurance.

I hope that helps.

It must be a little different to what I am used to as I sell internationally everyday.

Little or next to no paperwork - any that there is - is not a hassle - just part of the service.

I have not had any parcels go astray and I have sent hundreds to the US and many other countries, England, Italy, France and others. Some items have been very heavy - but customers have always been willing to pay the additional postage - which I try and keep to a minimum - no extras or handling - just what the post office charges.

On Ebay - 70% of my customers are international.

Thanks for letting me know about contacting the sellers - I don't have a problem doing that - but must say that I rarely do - just go onto the next one and find someone that does ship internationally.

Getting late here now - almost tomorrow in a couple of minutes.

Thank you for replying.

Jules I would not have any problem buying from you. What I am saying is that you will find a lot on ebay that refuse to send international. Maybe I should not have told you why. I still stand by what I said about choosing what you like and contact the seller. You will have fewer problems. I know several sell costumes jewelry, Lana sells shipping items, many sell postcards. You will find DVD's, sports cards and more.

Best of luck!

I still ship out of the USA, i just had to adjust my prices after USPS rate increase.
Their is a option to select if you ship international or not during the auction listing process.

Wam does not have that option with it if you list from Wam, but the site does have that option for international.
I have only done one international shippment, to Australia as a matter of fact. First international I have ever done. It wasn't real difficult, just one form to fill out. But the shipping is outrageous, My buyer paid all the shipping with no problem, as she wanted the widget pretty bad and even then she was having problems finding someone who would ship international.
The only thing I didn't like and took the risk on, is I could not get a delivery confirmation on first class, or priority, whichever it was. I can't remember, it was last year and I have slept since then.
The shipping alone for the little 2-3 lb. box was like 23 or 24 dollars just to get it to Australia.

If you do your postage from either paypal or USPS.com you get a tracking number but you have to use pirority international which is only a little higer than standard international shipping.
A tracking number is a must if the buyer has paid with paypal because if you don't have a tracking number the buyer could always file for their money back even if they got the item and paypal will let them have their money back 100 % of the time, but if you can provide paypal with the tracking numbers then in most cases you get to keep your money.

I mail a lot of stuff out of the usa...somewhere around 50 - 100 a month.

I lucked out and had an honest buyer. Like I said was the first time I did an international in my life.
Thanks for the info Tom.

Thanks for all your advice.

Postage for me overseas is very inexpensive - except for the heavier items.

I have never had one of those charge back things - and I guess relied on the fact that all my customers have been honest and I haven't had a problem with them trying to claim money back in all the years that I have been selling.

Insurance is available from here too - but for the smaller items it is just not economical or necessary.

With listing - I had just been using the site and the listing form - I haven't tried WAM.

With the speciality glassware that I sell from Canada - it already has insurance included into the postage cost and comes with tracking capabilities.
